Starring: Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, and Julianne Moore
At fortysomething, straight-laced Cal Weaver (Steve Carell) is living the dreamĖgood job, nice house, great kids and marriage to his high school sweetheart. But when Cal learns that his wife, Emily (Julianne Moore), has cheated on him and wants a divorce, his ďperfectĒ life quickly unravels. Worse, in todayís single world, Cal, who hasnít dated in decades, stands out as the epitome of un-smooth. Now spending his free evenings sulking alone at a local bar, the hapless Cal is taken on as wingman and protege to handsome, thirtysomething player Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling). In an effort to help Cal get over his wife and start living his life, Jacob opens Calís eyes to the many options before him: flirty women, manly drinks and a sense of style that canít be found at Supercuts or The Gap. Cal and Emily arenít the only ones looking for love in what might be all the wrong places: Calís 13-year-old son, Robbie, is crazy about his 17-year-old babysitter, Jessica, who harbors a crush on Cal. And despite Calís makeover and his many new conquests, the one thing that canít be made over is his heart, which seems to keep leading him back to where he began.
As soon as I saw the previews for Crazy Stupid Love, I was very interested. A mainstream pickup related movie. I went to see it however, and it turned out to be a different story.
Ryan Gosling is shown as this incredible player. He uses a lot of direct game, and the interview "where do you work", "what do you do". Its everything you would expect from the mainstream on How to pickup girls. What makes it better than a disney movie in regards to pickup advice, is Steve Carell's character transformation. The gist of it is to dress well, and have good personal hygiene. So, while clothing style and looking fresh are very important aspects of game, I'd have to say this movie strays from any real game, to settle in with the rest of Mainstream's pickup advice.
If someone were to look for pickup advice in a movie...
