View Full Version : What's Mystery's Method and what did he really invent?

With mainstream media focusing on Mystery Method and him being credited with inventing it I think it's fair to ask how much of mystery method was invented by Mystery?
Thinking back Mystery Method is more of the collective knowledge of the various contributors to mASF back in the day.
Mysterys FMAC was basically him opening a set doing a bunch of magic tricks and getting a number. That's over simplication ofcourse but it's true.
Many things you find in MM originated from other sources. Even Bait, Hook, Reel, Release, is basically just push/pull.
Mystery did come up with some great theories and routines (most famously Neghits), but what he teaches is compilation of knowledge structured into a format that reads like stereo instructions.
Mystery has convinced himself ofcourse that everything is his invention, and seeking validation from fawning men has always been the most important thing to him. That's why he'll write novel like responses to detractors, talking about his TV show and album upcoming. Like Mystery can actually sing.

Does it really matter what he invented aside from a wikipedia entry and for PUA historians to debate instead of being out gaming?
Half of invention is promotion, particularly with the smorgasbord of self improvement crap out there. And he promoted the hell out of it, as the various folks in this board lament every other post regarding VH1, Conan, etc.

Yeah sure whatever. I love the "Just go game" response that comes when you touch a nerve.
Yes it matters who developed the material. Mystery is always crying and taking credit for everything. God forbid you try to use something Mystery "invented", you might end up in front of a judge. He didn't promote shit, Neil Strauss did.

Yeah Style landed him on the eighteen goddamn talk shows, his own VH1 show and two appearances on Conan. And it's not like Style got into the game because... Mystery was promoting his in field boot camps or anything.
Welcome to ADD pop culture buddy, yeah it sucks that the inventor of a given thing isn't a fucking rockstar now, I agree with that, go tell it to the grave of Nikola Tesla or one of the other incredible inventors (That actually matter, incidentally) that died destitute because they couldn't promote.
Who invented a given routine matters to you and five other people, not the millions of people watching the show.

that's thing, if someone has an opinion people don't like or isn't conventional, you want to ban that person.
If you don't like what I have to say don't read it. If you think I'm an idiot ignore me.
If there is no truth to what I'm saying why do you care what I think.
I've been around the community a lot longer than you.

Yeah you think Mystery would have gottten anywhere if style hadn't written about him in the NY times?
Mystery obviously cares who invented routines, so does Savoy.

You're proving my point for me.
Would Style have ever written anything about Mystery if he hadn't have been out shamelessly self promoting field training?

OK that's true. Is there anything wrong with giving credit where credit is due? Or believing that mystery isn't the genius that people who only know of the community through "the game" think he is and expressing that opinion?

No, there's nothing wrong with giving credit but it's nothing more than intellectual historianism. What you're doing is a small scale version of going into a McDonalds and saying "OMG GUYS! CHECK IT, like Ronald McDonald didn't invent hamburgers yo! Some guy in Germany did! it was in Hamburg, hence the name! Throw out that Big Mac! Seriously tubby, I know it tastes good, but that clowny big shoed motherfucker didn't invent it!"
McDonalds packaged it, made it cheap, made it easy and promoted the hell out of it. You know who invented hamburgers? Me neither, but there's a half billion of them eaten every day.

Mystery's made some sweet contributions to the community. He brought us Negs, peacocking and group theory techniques. He brought us bootcamps. And he built the M3 model. The M3 model was built to describe how his and other methods work... a grand unified theory.
Everything else taught in his ebook or bootcamps is borrowed and compiled from other sources. Which he freely admits.

Correct me if I am wrong but didn't Style go to like 10 different people and learn their stuff and read god knows how many books. He was gathering data on something that he wanted to do. I know i gather data from all over the community from David D to MM to NLP. So yeah I don't care who made it all i know is if you want to be 100% open minded about it and take it for what it is worth.
I love the M3 model so thats what i follow more than anything. I try to implement everything i learn into it but i'm not gonna go screw David D cause his shit suck Mystery is were it's at. They are all in the same boat at the end of the day. Minus the Legal shit thats going on right now with MM and VA. Like Cedar said Mystery brought a-lot to the Pick up community so stop bashing him and thank him he that he shared, i am not say worship him but tip your hat man he has been though the ringer and back and he is one of the few that is still in this one of the "OG's".

Mystery compiled and organized the info, practiced and promoted and made a living doing so. There are plenty of guys out there that can pick-up as many or more girls than this crew. He just made it readily available. And now is the self proclaimed master.

I say we make a thread and call it The Real McCoy Bitch Sessions. That way this idiot can complain about how he never gets laid because of Mystery or Style or whoever his libido is pissed at. I've read a few threads by this guy and not a SINGLE one has anything constructive to say. If you don't like what Mystery is doing, GET OFF HIS FORUM. This is his company's forum to help people who need it. If you can't get laid, attend a bootcamp and i'm sure these guys will still be willing to help you out even though ur such a douche bag. if you're getting laid left and right, why the hell do you have time to post on these forums???
IT'S PEOPLE LIKE YOU THAT MAKE ME WANT TO GO TO THE BEACH AND BURY METAL OBJECTS THAT SAY "GET A LIFE."

Hi,
I've not been around the community long likeyou.
But I do personally know several of the largest names in the
community.
So here's what I have not seen taught anywhere else:
1. I never saw anyone else teaching the whole social status concept,
how to raise your social status going into a set with DHV's, the listing of
DHV's, how to embed DHV's in stories without appearing to be bragging.
I'd really like to read someone teaching how to do DHV's before mystery. If
your claim is someone revealed this body of knowledge before Mystery,
give me the exact references because I'd like to see them.
2. The whole structure of seduction from A1 to C3. I have not seen in any
product anywhere anyone else break it down like that. Specifically,
I always tried to lead with A3 and NEVER had anyone tell me why A2 had
to proceed A3.
3. Peacocking -- who else taught this before Mystery? I'd really like to
read their stuff. Because I saw people teaching you to "dress wll" which
is very different from peacocking.
4. I NEVER saw anyone else teaching specific strategies for approaching
2 sets, 3 sets and so forth before Mystery. If someone did, tell me who
did it and what product they wrote that in cause I'd like to read it.
Personally, I think you're trying to cover up for people blatantly ripping off
Mystery's intellectual property and reselling it and trying to rationalize
doing so.

If I answer that question, I would be qualifying myself to you. Which MYSTERY taught me I shouldn't do as it lowers my value. ;)

Hi,
He's someone standing up straight for Mystery on Mystery's own freakin' forum.
I think that's pretty straight up.
I wish all these Mystery haters would go hate on another board. If you
think Mystery sucks, if you think Mystery is full of it, if you think whatever,
FINE!
But don't TRASH Mystery on Mystery's own forum. Go post on Jugglers forum.
Or Sinn's. Or anyone elses.

Mystery's Method is made op of many different parts, some parts coming from the ideas of other men, and then other parts that came straight from Mystery.
All great creators are rip off artists to some degree. Beethoven didn't create music or Alberti bass, or counterpoint, or the sonata or the symphony, but he contributed to the art in such a way that revolutionized it - the impetus of the romantic era.
Now, I tend to hate musical analogies as much as those infamous WWII Hitler sociological analogies and they won't get girls to jump on your dick, but this one seems to fit.
Are we witnessing the second coming of Babygirl or Ray Gordon here?
I don't think so, Slob, I just think more and more people are noticing certain inconsistencies with Mystery and associates regarding the seduction community in general, not just VA specifically.
I've been seeing some shady activity myself, but I don't really feel it's my place to say anything since I'm only a few months old in the community. If others feel they should stand up and say something though, I defend their right to say it (sorry for sounding like Voltaire here)

In regard to there being inconsistencies....of course there are. There is a LARGE body of work that the MM was based on. They are TOOLS not gospel. Use the tools you feel help you achieve your goals. In order to find the right tools, however, you must experiment with different tools (methods, routines, openers, models, etc.) to find which one works best FOR YOU.

I don't think any of this stuff is really invented. Naturals have known it for thousands of years (they just don't know how to explain it). Mystery deserves credit for properly explaining much of it. Also, the game is like science. More than one person can come to the same conclusion independently. Nobody invented the game. The game is just a bunch of invisible rules the society seems to abide by. We are all trying to figure them out and understand them.
