Newbie Field Report

This is my first post under the Venusian Arts forum. Thus I am an extreme Newbie as one might say. I'm new to The Game and am not even through reading Style's book "The Game". But, excitement flooded my veins upon hearing about this underground sensation and I HAD to try it out. I talked to one of my best friends about it and he read some of the book also and agreed we should give it a whirl. For this report he'll be called Friend.

Setup: A community center on the college where Friend and I both attend. We are playing pingpong when a lovely 3set (all female) walk in and start playing pool about 20 feet behind us. Friend gives me the "I just made a million dollars" grin and whacks the ball at the girls who are just not breaking on their pool game.

(Target picks up the pingpong ball and underhands it to me when im about 10 feet away)
<Nada> Good throw.
<Target> Haha, yea... thanks.
<Nada> You mind if I ask you a question?
<Target> Ye...
<Nada> Do you believe in magic?
(Target#2 [Friends intended target] and obstacle laugh at this statement)
<Target> uhhh, i dont know. why?
<Nada> Well I had a guy come up to me on the street the other day and he showed me an amazing magic trick. Let me see if I can duplicate it.
(I do the This, This, n' That card trick [I'll post how to do it later] with a huge response from Obstacle and little from Target and Target2)
<Obstacle> ohhh I looooove magic
<Nada> haha yea, If only I knew how to do it...
(small chuckles from all 3, and Friend joins the set)
<Friend> Nada, who are your friends? You know them?
<Nada> Nah they were just admiring me, what are your names girls?
(Everyone goes through their names, Target studders on her name)
<Nada> Cant think of your name, eh? Hope youre not a double major...{Good neg or no? Your opinion?}
<Target> haha actually, I am.
<Obstacle> Lets see another trick, do you know any other ones?
<Nada> Ahhh yea I have one.
(I perform Heat of the Cards [Again ill explain later] and I incorporate Target2 in the trick and keep my shoulder to my Target)
<Obstacle> AHH, That was amazing! Let ME show YOU one!
<Nada> Haha ok, lets see this...
( I sit next to Target and pretend to be interested in Obstacle's lame trick while doing some really soft idle chitchat with target all the while Friend is working on Target2)
<Nada> Haha thats pretty good there. I think I taught that one to my sister about a month ago. Shes in 4th grade though...
(Good laughs from everyone, this is demonstrating reasonable value am I right?)
<Target2> I think its my hit.
(Target2 starts playing pool again. We all idle chitchat until my Target botches a shot)
<Nada> Im good at magic, and youre good at pool. Well, atleast im good at magic...
<Target> Oh yeah? Lets see a good one then.
(I perform Red Card trick [My most prized card trick which ill again, explain later])
<Nada> Figure that one out, target. (Good wink)
(Obstacle is crooning over my spectacular magic but I want nothing to do with her. I'm there for Target. At this time everything starts feeling awkward. I didn't feel like I was welcome anymore so I gave target my email so I wouldn't feel like a total failure and there might, maybe, just maybe, be a chance shell contact me. Doubtful but we'll see.


Now as a current AFC I'd like to see what kind of responses I can evoke.
Am I playing too much to their will?
Do I need to perhaps neg earlier?
How do I make the quiet girl of a group (Who unfortunately was Target this time) speak up more and make herself more vulnerable for a solid neg?
Any help is much appreciated!

Did you become the dancing monkey? Do one trick, make them earn the rest. Then stack into a routine. One trick is cool, two is okay, three not so much. I surely think you should not have done more tricks after the obstacle performed the lame trick.

I do card magic as well and am just starting out in the game. I have not yet done card magic in pickup. I'm not sure how to make it look natural that I'm walking around with a deck of cards.

Sometimes, 3 tricks are not bad. I've noticed if I can hit 3 ESP tricks right on, it is usually an APW (automatic panty wetter). Especially if it is a girl who is not that smart and doesn't know that it is a trick (you'd be surprised how many girls out there actually believe someone can read their mind) ... you can go from random guy who approaches to seeing puppy dog eyes in an instant. And to have a whole circle of people clapping and cheering around you in a bar pretty much makes you the most popular person there unless Barack Obama or Mystery walk in.

I do agree that the minute someone says 'do another trick' you have to make them earn the trick. Or ... you can outright freeze them out and say 'maybe later' which gives them a reason to keep you around. (Magic makes you thirsty ... perfect time to get someone to buy you a drink. THAT certainly would demonstrate value to a girl.)

Another thing I noticed is that you negged the obsticle (4th grade trick) as well as well as the target. It is my impression that you are only supposed to neg the target in order to establish that teasing push and pull repore with her. The obstacle doesn't need negs because she is already into you. The negs are designed to show the target you are not like every other guy who will do anything she says, while still showing a little attention.

here's my two bobs worth about your possible email close.

Firstly, you have a lot of positives and tools and i believe that if you had reframed and especially rephrased and added a little spice, you could have even number closed.

Now, with the opening question, rather than say can i ask you a question, say can i get your opinion on something or directly say, hey do you believe in magic?

the moment you asked that and the obstacle who was Friend's target started laughing at the statement, you had quite a few options here which you could have used. For example, you could have said, you laugh like a gypsie or listen i have some chewy, let me give you some coz your breath stinks, or you could have even easily gone directly into Style's C,s versus U,s and start by saying 'hey has anyone told you have a c shaped smile'? trust me the girls are going to go 'what the fuck is that' and thats when you go through the routine.

dont ever say i saw some other guy doing this let me see if i can duplicate it coz imitation is the sincerist form of flattery and you will be seen like someone who is trying too hard.

when you first asked the question to your target and obstacle replies instead, look directly in the eyes of your target and say 'is she always this rude answering questions for you and sticking her sticky beak in everywhere? how do you roll with her or put up with her?

hope your not a double major was an awesome line, good on you for that one, totally awesome!!!

theres quite a few more points in there as well but think about what i have written in the meantime.

Ill try a different set today with these things in mind.
Ill leave the cards at home theyre kind of a crutch to me I think.

**UPDATE**
Nearly 24hrs after the initial pickup. In an email from... Obstacle! Oh noes! lol

<Obstacle> accept my friend request! if u dont remember, i met u at Baker last night. you did the magic card tricks and i went kinda crazy! :-)

This is through Facebook.
No sign of Target or Friends Target.
Should I just ignore it and forget the entire set...
Or do I accept it and try to use her to segway to her two hb7s for my friend and I? Possibly accept it and then neg her on her public board to embarass her and so that her friends will see me on her page?

accept it and move on. No real problem with that. Negging her online sounds like a reach, and you're putting a lot of effort for an HB7.
Chaulk it up to a lesson. Learn what you can from it and move along.
