Originally posted on my blog, the dream lounge, a quick list of tips for the young/new guy.
Fundamentals: principles from which other truths can be derived; "first you must learn the fundamentals"; "let's get down to basics"
I feel a lot of guys my age going out *with a purpose* don’t understand some logistical basics. Nothing to be ashamed of, I just wish people would have told me this kinda stuff early on. What follows are a few things that have helped me here and there, big and little.
1. Buy a good cell phone
Don’t go for the free piece of shit they offer you. It’ll break, and fuck up along the way. I had one of those phones and it always caused me problems, both with family/friends and girls. Cell phones are an excellent means of communication and there’s no reason to cut your self short with someone by using a crappy cell phone. Don’t sabotage your phone game with a shitty cell phone.
*By the way, had I not upgraded my phone, the convention probably wouldn’t have happened, it was that crucial.
Get something at a decent price, you like, can type on, and has a good speaker/mic built into it. A camera is also useful (especially when you can actually get files on and off it).
I myself have a Samsung Blackjack. Got it for 75 bucks back in june, one of the best little things I ever did. Full keyboard, nice camera, easy to use, aim, internet, voice notes, easy e-mail acess, etc…
My Razr before that was so old it was coughing up blood. There are plenty of options out there, go pick one out. Read reviews<<<
2. Have stuff to do at your house, seriously.
Little sutff like this makes the difference for the close. One of the easiest thing to do with girls this age is play interactive fun video games. Things like Dance Dance revolution, Guitar Hero, light gun games, Mario kart, ALMOST ANYTHING on the wii, etc… Just make sure you’re not trying to play like Gears of War or something with her. Any of these are a good day 2 and seed for your bounce.
Getting a nerf hoop in your room is something I believe Jeffy from RSD started. Basically go to wal-mart with a couple bucks and buy a nerf hoop for your room. When your out you can mention that you have a full size basketball court in your room. Having it on your door also makes it easy to close the door once your in the bedroom (discretion is key guys, chicks don’t always enjoy your roommate bursting in the room drunk and slobbering while your going at it).
Have pictures laying around your room or at least on your myspace/facebook. Music/videos are also cool (just search funny cats on youtube and you’re all set). Just have something to do in your room.
Shit Slikk likes playing board games with chicks. Have a fish tank screen saver so you can mention that you have a shark tank in your room. Have something.
HAVE SHIT TO DO.
3. Always have a condom in your wallet
Always have a condom on you for that matter. This is more of a general thing I see to, not just young guys. You’re not getting laid without a condom (or shouldn’t be you dumb bastard). Have one on you, or your wallet as much as possible. It puts you in the right mindset and it’s a necessary tool for….well damn its obvious.
4. Do not over qualify young girls
The younger a girl is, usually the less developed her identity is. More often than not some 18 year old chick can NOT list 3 things about herself no matter how cool she is (if she does manage to spit 3 out they are usually like fun, cool, smart, nothing amazing). Either let qualification happen naturally or just ask about some simple shit. Ie, name one thing…
5. Don’t over game the chick.
Girls at a young age usually aren’t socialized to to well. Some are yes and are witty as can be, but a lot of them are new to going out, college etc… If she’s into you right off the bat, don’t fuck it up thinking you have to do xyz or else she wont like you…
6. Go to the gym every day (or close to it)
I cant stress enough how important this is. Not only are you at the peak of your growth hormone, testosterone production and metabolism, but man it’s an excellent time in your life to implement that habit of going to the gym at least 5 days a week. On top of that there are plenty of girls to be chatted up, and high value guys. Spotting someone else is a quick way to befriend some bouncer or get invited to a party.
7. Go to class.
Most people this age are in their senior year of high school or now college (hopefully). Going to class is the easiest way to keep your grades up, just do it. It builds mental strength, and there are always girls to talk to before and after class for fun/practice.
8. Go out
This goes without saying much…. If your not going out, you’re not getting any better. The best time to start is now. There is no reason not to. Slow and steady growth is perfect to begin now. By the time you’re in your early 20’s, if you’ve been consistent, you will have excellent game regardless of the obstacles and external influences along the way.
9. Drastically reduce your drinking (or don’t at all), do not smoke.
Ya…duh. The younger you become addicted to alcohol the more ingrained into your body it becomes. Game is better, and more fun without alcohol. You’ll be healthier and in better shape than those who do drink a lot. You also wont become dependent on alcohol to have a good time, and will save a boat load of cash.
If you feel the need to fit in (like a chode), you can drink water and say it’s a vodka drink.
As for smoking….do I even need to say anything? Why the fuck would you be smoking in the first place?...Are you retarded or something?
10. Start reading, now.
Once again, the best time to do anything is always now. There’s a lot of useful info in this world to read. Get started now. It will only help you in the long run. Personally I’m big on whatAnthony Robbins has to say. Steve Pavlina is useful, and free. TD also has some amazing insights. Get on that shit, every day.
Me? I read while I workout every day for 30-40 mins. Install the right software. Go pick up a book right now. Do it! ;)
Simple tips, but effective when applied. Try em out, see how they work for you.
