In my opinion, the only thing affirmations accomplish is perpetuating the very thing you're trying to combat. While they may get the job done, they do so 1.) incompletely and/or 2.) inefficiently. Often, however, they only mask the true problem, covering it up and pushing it deeper into your subconscious.

I feel a better way to change negative attitudes and conditionings is to simply CHANGE them. Granted, it takes strong willpower, but I've made it a habit to just recognize my sticking points and change them.

Ciao,
Rob

Here's the thing with the affirmations, according to my experience (i've played with them extensively):
You must be relaxed, when doing them. When saying relaxed, I do not mean just not tight, I mean totally relaxed, as if you're ready to fall asleep. Your brain must be in "meditation" mode, functioning near 7 hz, on the threshold between alpha and theta. This way, your brain will not bring objections to the suggestions made, and therefore the affirmations are more easily absorbed.
I use the "Meditation" presets from Brainwave Generator (http://www.bwgen.com/) which tunes in your mind to exactly 7 hz function frequency, just the relaxed state you need for meditation, then repeat the affirmations in my mind. The next day the affirmations are in use by your mind, for example I kept repeating to myself "You move slowly, relaxed and controlled" which either had me moving slowly like that, or believing I do. Either way, this is effective. :) :) :)

The problem with this method, the way I see it, is repeating to yourself ego boosting things, which (as I have noticed) certainly does alter your frame... but not in the way you want it to/or it is a sideeffect. So it is best to keep the affirmations positive or neutral (like the above affirmation).

Thanks for the replies. I do own brainwave gen, but never thought about combining it with affirmations. I'll see how far i can
go with that. Also, affirmations only have a temporary affect, correct?

I asked a psychologist on the autosuggestion/affirmations thing, describing him exactly how I felt they were altering my behaviour (along with the ego part). What he replied is that this is a method used by psychologists to get rid of phobias, the pros of the method being that it is very quick to show results, and the cons being that the effects fade away after a few months.

Let me know what your results with the Brainwave generator are.

Here is a list of the frequencies and what each one stands for:

(hope the moderators don't mind the frequencies talk here)

I think it takes away from your ability to be flexible in any given circumstance. And that's the most valuable asset the game has to offer (to me). It allows you to be spontaneous and achieve success without having to exert a long, drawn out effort. (except initially when you're learning game)

I've never used a brainwave generator, what's it like?
I can never be chill for night game, I end up being a wallflower. I get these very strange natural urges to jump out and yell at people, which I do.

I use affirmations to change in the way RobLaughter suggests. Here's an affirmation:
-I am the fun.

Doesn't need to be true, but it makes you marvelously relaxed. Not chill, but relaxed; there's a distinction.

I've never used a brainwave generator, what's it like?

Example: Applies a 15 hz frequency beat on your left ear, and a 5 hz frequency beat on the right ear. The brain, in order to counteract the 15-5 = 10 hz difference in the beat between the two ears will create a 10 hz beat, with which it tunes. 10 hz = relaxation. This is why you get relaxed. This is NOT safe stuff however.

So what do you call the "You'll love me" below your message? ;) that's a pretty good affirmation actually! What I use sometimes for this is Subliminalblaster, it's freeware and you can use subliminal messages on your computer.
I've done a course on affirmative thinking in Holland a few years ago and I believe in the power of it. If you wonder if affirmations really work or not? I guess there's no way to rationaly know... what's the reason something in my life changes into the positive... did my thoughts create my reality or did my reality help me create my thoughts....:) just try it out... I found it to be pretty effective as it helped me out of a drugaddiction, so... :D

The only thing that matters during the sarging night is state.

No affirmations, none of that crap will turn you into a super pua machine. No such thing. You can do that in the morning when you get up if you feel it's making your day better.

One thing you can do is just reframe everything positive during the day. You'll have a good night after that.

However, just get into state. Warm up sets are good. Just go crazy, who cares?

I kinda agree with you saying that during the sarging affirmations are not really much help, and state is, but I think you kinda misunderstand what affirmations are and do. It's not at all about making you feel a little bit 'fake good' in the morning, it's about building your inner state and changing your future and yourself by changing the way you think and by changing the way you talk to yourself. Which is according to me something that actually dóes help to be that super pua machine and that helps you to get into or be always in that state you are referring to. :)
